Trying to get "whats_new" products to show on my top level category...

There's gotta be a simple way to do this.

I have:

Main Category 1
Sub Cat 1
Sub Cat 1a
Sub Cat 1b
Sub Cat 2
Sub Cat 2a
Sub Cat 2b

I can only get the "what's new" or "featured item" lists to show up on the main page for the whole store, or specifically for Sub Cat 1a (for example).

Is there somehow to get the "what's new" or "featured item" list to show on the Main Category 1 page that will only dump together items from all subcategories and child subcategories of Main Category 1? Subsequently, to also get "what's new" or "featured items" from Sub Cat 2a and Sub Cat 2b to only show when Sub Cat 2 is active?

Seems simple enough, but i've been staring at code for hours trying to figure this out

Check your setting for "Configuration", then "Index Listing", then "Filter Product Listing for Current Top Level Category When Enabled".

I'm not sure if that will help or not, but I think so.

The Centerboxes are based on the parent/child relationship ... you are wanting to go deeper ...

At this time, that is not available in Zen Cart ...

This can be customized but does take some work to make it function ...
