I need to find where to authorize new customers --- hopefully automatically.
Is there a way to have a table or flat file to have correct login information in such as unit number or something like that.

Why would you use Authorized customers and then want to automate it?

In the admin, configuration->customer details set Customer Approval Status to 0 to have customers approved automatically.
You can probably change the status manually in any existing customers in the admin under customers->customers

This is a proprietary site where customers I already know can get into it and buy the products. They have certain identifiying numbers and it would be easier to type them in and certify them up front to speed the process.
Shop owner is lazy, doesn't want to be on the computer constantly.

So what to do here??
Ah, different question from what I first imagined.
Let me see if I have this correct.
The site has existing customers and the owner wants to set up their accounts so they can just log in and not have to create the accounts first.
Am I right?
If so, you might want to consider the download which allows customer info to be entered from the admin.
It seems to me you could use that download to enter the existing customer's info (and possibly use their identifying numbers as their passwords) and then they can just come to the site, log in and start shopping.
Does that help?

You do have to know their email address. Since these are firemen, we would not necessarily know which address they would want to register under, but it is better than the capabilities before the install.
It actually is good if you need to help someone sign up. I am considering adding it to all my Zen Cart installs.
