    What you can do and this is preferable is in you copy for english.php find

    Code:
    define('ENTRY_EMAIL_PREFERENCE','Newsletter and Email Details');
    and change this to
    Code:
    define('ENTRY_EMAIL_PREFERENCE','Email Details');
    Removing the reference to a Newsletter but retaining their email preference and then you just never send a Newsletter.

    The title is email and newsletter details and you should have the email details for order notifications.
    You then just do not use the Newsletter function...

    If you turn off the newsletter subscribe box in admin>configuration>customer details and do as kobra suggests, you then still offer the customer the option of how they would like to receive their e-mails.

    If you want to hide that altogether and deny your customers the choice, you can either use CSS to hide the element or edit includes/modules/create_account.php

    poosk,
    yes you can set a default by going to admin -> configuration -> customer details and then toggle the default email option, but I don't know how to remove that option on the user sign up page.
