cart can't find download file

I have set up items as downloads, using option names and values, and everything works fine. The files all appear in the Downloads Manager with a green button indicating they are there. After checkout the download button appears, and the title of the download.

BUT.... when you try to download the product, the address bar goes here:

...mycataloguename.../pub/.ngscrduwyupfxoxuxg/afternoon_at_movies.zip

and it displays a 404 can't find page error.

Anyone know how I can help it find the document?

Have you checked to make sure that the file permissions on your pub directory are set to 777 ?

Yes, the folder is set to 777.

Are you on a unix or windows server?

NOTE: windows servers cannot use Redirect ON and must be set to Redirect OFF

If you are on an unix server, you should be able to use Redirect ON unless your hosting site does not have your server configured properly to handle the symbolic links in the .htaccess file:

#prevent directory browsing -- for security
IndexIgnore */*

  Options +FollowSymLinks -Indexes

You would need to check with your hosting company if this is an issue ...

How large is the file?

Do small files work?

Has this ever worked for you?

What version of Zen Cart are you using?

Clean install or an upgrade? If an upgrade from what version and how did you do the upgrade?

Resolved. I found the problem. I needed to change the settings in the admin/configuration/attributes from 'download by redirect'. I guess I am on a Unix server. I forgot to check that.
