    Default MySQL Cache, Processes Settings

I sometimes have a slow site. I think it's to do with the database as the site half loads but takes a little while loading the center column.

I am going to ask my host to increase the MySQL cache and allocate more RAM to MySQL processes.

Can anyone think what else may be the problem and what settings should I tell the host to increase MySQL to??

I have found a lot of tips searching through the forum, but since my host has increased it now and maybe some changes I've done like turn on gzip. My website is sometimes giving following error.

2006 MySQL server has gone away
    in:
    [select * from zen_get_terms_to_filter]

2006 MySQL server has gone away
    in:
[select count(*) as total from zen_sessions where sesskey = '1dfd5456sfsd32f1sd6f4s6f4s']

    thanks Ajeh ;)

I have moved to this new host and have been chasing it up with them. It's something to do with the my sql timeout connection expiring because the web server was taking too long to respond. They say I'm on a new server and it's being "weeded" out. Response is slow at times but I have really learned how to finely tune my site. I was wondering where is the best place I can share this knowledge with everyone. I made some school boy mistakes because of the wonders of fast connections you don't realise your site isn't optimsed.
