HELP! Need to copy full categories

Hello, I hope that you can help me with my problem.

I have a store and I have 1,000 products that need to be copies to two other categories, to make a total of 3,000 product. The reason why I am doing this is because even though its the same product they are for difference colors/styles which mean they have a difference product code. I will then just change any information needed with quick update.

Please help, this is what I need to do:

Copy a category or a subcategory to another category or subcategory. They are already full of products so I want to move them.

if you were to do a select in phpMyAdmin for:

SELECT products_id, categories_id as '3' from products_to_categories where categories_id = 10; 

where 3 is the new categories_id you want and 10 is the old categories_id ... this would create a new products_to_categories data group that can now be exported as data only then imported and all of the Products that were in categories_id 10 will now also in categories_id 3 as Linked Products ...

Oh wait ... you want to make NEW products or LINKED products?

We need new products, or unlinked products.

So this is the best way to copy a category? How do I then unlink the products?

No the method I described only would work for Linked Products ...

There is not a built in method for this at this time to create mass duplicate products for a new category ...

You could do something similar with the tables for:
products
products_description
products_to_categories

And manipulate the products_id and categories_id to copy these but it would take some time to really work out the details on doing this for you ...

Perhaps post something in the Commercial Help Wanted on this ...

Well can i just unlink the products? Is there a way to keep the product, but just unlink it?

No ... and Linked product is not a Product it is a reference
