Excluding an item from bestsellers sidebox

Is it possible to exclude a specific item or category from being listed in the "best sellers" sidebox? The item I need to exclude is not free (if it were I'd know how to do it). But I could put it into a category of its own if that would help.

You would need to customize the SELECT statement for that sidebox ...

If not using Linked Products you could use the master_categories_id as what value for the categories_id you want to exclude ...

you mention the item is not free and if it was you know how to remove free stuff from best sellers.

If this is something that is possible, please tell me what I need to know to do this!
