store orders before payment

Hi,

We have recently completed a store with zen cart. We use Realex (an irish payment gateway) to process our credit cards.

They have provided us with their scripts for integration.

However, the order does not seem to get stored in admin before it goes to their site for payment. When the payment is completed they call on a response script on our site. The order then gets stored.

I'm trying to figure out how Zen Cart knows what the order is if it does not get stored before it goes to the payment gateway - or does it store it and not show it until the response is received?

If so then we could end up with a payment and no order in Zen Cart if their gateway was unable to communicate for a moment with our site.

If anybody would like to look at the scripts I can send them on.

Please take a moment to advise what I should do.

How do orders get stored before a user is sent to Paypal, Worldpay or whatever payment gateway?

The order information is stored in the session ID
thats what needs to be passed to the gateway and returned from the gateway with the auth code to generate the order

Is there a way to store them in the database as pending before they go to the payment gateway?
