help question Your fav web layout graphics program

I am interested in hearing fron zen users about their preference in graphics programs used for editing and creating web related imaging. This is not limited to just photos and buttons/menus but all kinds of web image layout tasks.

Could you please give a short blurb outlining your reasons for favouring a certain program.

I am looking to move to a program more web (image) creation friendly than a very old version of photoshop that i use. Do many use Quark for this task? Or Photoshop CS 2? Or perhaps Xara?

Thank you to all who may take the time to respond.

    Hi margecc,

What is it about Image Ready that makes it good for you to use? Have you used it to create curved and 3D site image layout?

Looking more for strengths and possibilities of programs rather than just which ones.

Any other graphics people care to chime in here??

I know you're asking for "why" feedback more than "what", but here's another reference to popular "what" options ... perhaps this list can help trigger folks' memories to provide feedback on their preferences:

3D Studio is the best for 3d graphics, however it is a commerical software, but it does create some awsome logos etc if you get the hang of using it

As for Adobe Image Ready, I just use it to make basic line art graphics. We are a forms printer, so I don't have much use for 3D graphics, pretty as they are, I need to edit logos. However I do know that I don't use even 10% of it capabilites, and I don't loose quality with very small file sizes. I have tried a few others, but I always wander back to Adobe. I think it's more of a love hate thing :-)
    Thanks, Colleen

Thanks marg, knuckle and Dr byte for your responses. Knuckle, 3D studio sounds good but pricey for what i need to do. Obviously focuses more on just 3D than anything. Dr byte, good general reference page. Marg, dont know image ready but will have a quick squiz.

Has anybody had experience designing with quarkxpress for web page layout?
Is photoshop CS2 suited for the task of creating page layout graphics? or mainly single image editing?
I know most web graphics people use a combination of different programs for different jobs, but would like to get a feel of the most common contenders that do a good job for their particular purpose. Page layout for web is where i'm focusing at the moment.

    Any other feedback?
