Default Do I need to define US tax zones if I'm Canadian?

Really dumb question, but I have to ask...

I followed the tutorial on setting up Canadian taxes....that was crazy easy!!!

However I sell 90% of my stuff to the States, which I don't charge any tax to. Do I need to set anything up in the tax sections (ie Zone Definitions, Tax Classes, Tax Rates) for US. Or if there is nothing there defining US, will Zen just not charge any tax, which is what I want.
    Thanks, Colleen

The only time you should ever have to charge sales tax in the US is if you were physically selling in the US. Always check with your local tax authority before beginning your business.

Hi Kim, Thanks for the quick reply!! We have been selling into the States for years, so I do know that we do not need to change any tax.

All I was really trying to confirm was if I had to define the States at all in the Zone Definitions, Tax Classes and Tax Rates for any reason since I am not charging them tax.

I know it seems really dumb, but I figured I had better ask now, rather than try and figure out why I have having problems with my US sales later.
    Thanks, Colleen

I got all the tax stuff set up for Canada and that went really smoothly thanks to Dr.Byte's tutorial.

I did find out however that I had to add a Zone Definition that just covered all Cdn provinces and a seperate one that covered all US States so that in the shipping module I could specify that UPS was only to be used in the States and Canpar was only to be used Canada.
    Thanks, Colleen

That's interesting, I'm just in the process of setting up my store and I might have to do the same because I will be using to different shipping methods as well...

Actually I have to different shippers depending on the products that people buy too, am I going to have to differentiate or am I able to differentiate shippers by products??

Check out this thread, it doesn't seem promising:
