Compliments will get you everywhere!! Lets just say that matters are not harmed by the fact that I have 5 servers running Ubuntu Linux in the conservatory...

OK, I've been doing some digging, and the best approach I was hoping to use is unfortunately blocked by Google. Blocked in the sense that if you want to use what they call an email gateway, they want you to subscribe to the premium apps accounts $$$$$

That said, we do make progress.

So instead we will have to configure Postfix to pretend it is you with an email client sending from your machine. I'm busy putting together the details of that and I'll post it shortly.

    Rgds,
    Chuck

    Thanks Chuckl.

I really appreciate this. The compliments are well deserved after all the people I see you are helping on this forum.

I don't see how you have time for anything else.

Just a quick one if google is not gonna happen how would you suggest to get round this?

Are there any e-mail services that you use or can suggest?

I work for a software company but they just use windows and I know more about Linux than anybody else who works there.

I think I am moving over to the linux way of thinking but if only you could play commercial games on it. They need a Linux directx.

And 5 servers. You are busy. Conservatories are hot enough places in the summer without 5 servers in them. How do you keep them cool?

Right, lets try some tests on port 587. You will need to add some postfix configuration settings from a command line, but first I need a couple of things

Firstly, when you set up Google Apps, you specified a prefix to use? Something like mail, or urban or whatever. Could you post that.
Secondly, when you access via thunderbird, what do you put into thunderbird as the mail server? e.g. mail.gameitus.com
Thirdly, I presume that the account supposedly sending the mail from Zen Cart (smmsp?) is a valid account on the Google Apps/gmail servers.
Finally, what is the actual email domain we are trying to talk to - is it gameitus.com or something.gameitus.com

When I send e-mail from Thunderbird the smtp details are:

    server: smtp.gmail.com
    port: 587

When I set up google apps it never asked me for a prefix.

I tested this out by applying for a google apps account for my personal web site.

[email protected] is the only account open on google apps and is the only I have been using.

Email domain? I am not sure where to find this out. When I set postfix up I set it up as mail.gameitus.com

I can receive them through the web mail interface or through pop with Thunderbird which uses ssl on port 995.

I think you need to create a couple more accounts there if we are trying to test logons and mail transfer. Mail servers are usually not too happy with you logging on as [email protected] to send mail to themself. Maybe create an admin@ or something like that?
