If attribute not selected - ERROR in the shopping cart

I have noticed an issue in case no attribute is selected and default value for attribute is not defined. For example I have clothes with colors defined as radio button attributes, but no default value. So, if customer, by accident, forgets to select the color, by clicking on the radio button, that item will be marked as "anavailable on the stock" in the shopping cart content, which is not correct.

Is there any solution for this? A different message, for example: "color not selected"? Of course, one can always define a default attribute value, but this could confuse the customer.

There is a setting for:
Display Only

I usually make an Option Value called:
Pick one
-- or --
Select from below ...
-- or ---
Your favorite color ...
etc. etc.

Set to:
Sort Order 0
Display Only YES
Default YES

Now the customer cannot add this product to the cart with these setting selected and will get a warning saying fix it ...
