No coding but a pointer -
Look at the code in tpl_shopping_cart.php which is a sidebox or enable this to view the layout and then copy the pieces you want and insert into the tpl_header.php file where you want it to appearZen-Venom Get Bitten

There is a "cart summary" sidebox contribution which can also be used in the header.
