This is how I did it. I uploaded the image to:
includes/languages/english/images/your_image_filename.gif
I went Tools>Define Pages Editor>define_main_page.php with Text Editor in HTMLarea mode.
Positioned cursor where I want the image. Click insert image icon.
In the URL window type in:http://www.your domain /includes/languages/english/images/your_image_filename.gif and "preview" the image.
Now you can insert the image by clicking OK. I hope it works for you. God bless.
Hi, I have followed this thread. I added the PHP code to the tpl_mainpage.php file. I opened Define pages editor. I don't see any Icon to insert an image, only save, reset & cancel. I am using Xampp locally. Zen Cart is v1.39h
I get no image on my main page, only a square box with a red x.
Am I missing something?

If you add the code to tpl_main_page.php (or define_main_page.php), you have done the "inserting", and there is no more to do in the files. Next, you need to copy the image into the folder specified in the code. Do this just as you would for any other image you wanted to move around in your computer.
v1.39h
Seems that I'm "Image Impaired" too.
Try as I might, no pics for me either.
I've moved four pictures into /public_html/images/Customerpics/
Permissions are 755 for the folder and 644 for the .jpg's(if it even matters).
I've tried the following (without the spaces of course):
www. my website name .com/public_html/images/Customerpics/picturename.jpg
http:// www. web site name.com/public_html/images/Customerpics/picturename.jpg
http:\\ www. web site name.com\public_html\images\Customerpics\picturename.jpg
../public_html/images/Customerpics/picturname.jpg
/public_html/images/Customerpics/picturname.jpg
../images/Customerpics/picturname.jpg
/images/Customerpics/picturname.jpg
All I get is the Forbidden message and 404 messages.
FWIW, I'm editing /public_html/includes/languages/english/html_includes/darkness/define_page_4.php
I've read this thread a dozen times but oviously I'm missing something.
Tried http://www. web site name.com/images/customerpics/picturename.jpg
Got this for my trouble:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /images/customerpics/picturename.jpg on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
The folder has a C, but I've tried it both ways with the same result.
Renamed folder from Customerpics to customerpics...same result.
