Best ways of new hits, visitors, links

I havent seen much about the most effective ways of getting people to your site, and we don`t want to keep paying advertisers.
So I am hoping we can list the most cost effective and productive ways of hits, visitors, customers whatever we call them.

Or any suggestions to get more traffic that isnt commonly known, apart from givng free stuff.

I'm a writer, and the articles I post in forums and groups are my biggest source of traffic.

As an ebay powerseller, one of our biggest repeat business draws to our ebay store is www.mystorerewards.com. They just stared offering an off ebay system as well.

Another method is to blog. You don't have to write to blog. You just need to copy and paste into a www.blogger.com account, or a www.wordpress.com folder on your own hosting site.

These blog programs send out a ping to blog announcement sites that have a big following.

Come to think of it they take rss feeds too. Hmm,
