Default Uh-oh...somehow my store oversold a product!

Here's the scenario: I had 2 of a certain item. I sold one of them a few weeks ago, and now today someone bought 2 more. But wait, I only had one left! Why and how did that happen? The only thing I can think of is because I had that item set to a max of 2 per order. But I didn't know that overides the amount in stock.
So am I supposed to leave that at 0 (unlimited)? Won't it allow someone to order an unlimited amount of a product that I have few of? I'm totally confused.
    Thanks!

No -- 0 means zero. None.

But if your stock-handling settings are set to allow backorders/overselling, then having 0 on hand means nothing.

What are your settings in Admin->Configuration->Stock ?

OK I figured it out. I have "Allow Checkout" (Allow customer to checkout even if there is insufficient stock) set to "True". I have now set it to "False"
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
