    help question Override System

I am a newbie, but a quick learner so I would appreciate a kick into the right direction.

I am going to customize my site using the override system. Th only modification I have made so far has caused me a lot of concern. Under includes/templates, I have added a sub-directory /custom. I modified a copy of template_info.php and placed it in that directory. No other changes were made. I switched the template selection in the Admin panel to "custom" and reset the boxes controller.

When I previewed the cart, I was amazed! The green color scheme was gone, side boxes missing and a variety of color appeared throught. What is happening here? Please help.

    You're seeing the default_template stylesheet.

You'll need a css folder with stylesheet, and images folder in your custom
template folder if you're developing your template from the classic template.

This chart is helpful to understand where you may add a custom template folder:

    Or, there's a downloadable one in downloads/other modules/overrides chart.

Thanks, I will read that. My understanding, I guess incorrectly, was that you did not copy over anything to your customization folders unless you were modifying it as Zen-Cart would use the default template. I guess I have a lot to learn.

Zen-Cart would use the default template.
That's correct! And since you didn't have a stylesheet in your custom folder,
Zen Cart used the stylesheet from the default template.

You were correct; but any custom template will require a stylesheet at the minimum, so you can start by copying one to use.

The "colorful" page of the /template_default/ stylesheet is intended to make it obvious what stylesheet id's/classes control what areas of the page. If you want a layout resembling the Classic one, the /classic/ stylesheet would be a good one to copy. Try both of them for function; for example, the Categories menu works differently with hover and subcategory colors between the two. You can combine and alter those behaviors.

(Oh yes, the default preinstalled template (Classic) is not the same as template_default, which is not intended to ever be used as is.)

Okay, I am going to give it a try. I am sure it will all make sense once I get the hang of it.

    Thanks!
