Just an update on mring's problems in case anyone is wondering about the status of her MAMP setup.

mring is running Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) on a non-Intel Mac.

For her version of Mac OS X, the highest version of MAMP that will work is 1.3.1. Later versions of MAMP prevented Apache from starting up.

As a precaution during setup, Mac OS X's Personal Web Sharing was also turned off. Installation of Zen Cart 1.3.7 went smoothly after that.

    Hi Pixxi,

I'm not sure if your problem might be more the result of a misconfiguration of your currency settings. Maybe you can re-check those settings.

You also mentioned running a test copy of a production shop on your local machine so some settings might not match your local setup. Try installing a new Zen Cart store on your local MAMP installation and see if the currency issue crops up again.

help question Re: Installed server on a Mac. Now how do I use it??

Hi, I just succeed on installing XAMPP. I'm quite a newbie. Where do I put the sample zencart shop on my HD? Into the same xampp folder?... or elsewhere ...?
And also: to test the zen sample shop do I need to create a brand new mysql database or may I use xampp as it is? I've found instructions on doing it on an ext server but I don't understand how to proceed on local mac with xampp.
The machine is iMac 2.0 intel with 10.4.9 running OS

    thanks a lot

I am having the same problem. I am completely lost. I have downloaded the Xammp for OS X (I have a new Intel IMac) and it is now telling me to run commands in a terminal. I have no idea what that means. I bought the book under the assumption a that a newbie would be able to just follow the instructions and get set up, but clearly this is WAY over my head....help???

Just reporting back for anyone who may come across a similar problem ...

The cause was a corruption somewhere amongst the files of the shop I had installed - couldn't find what it was, so installed again from a backup and it works fine with MAMP so far.

I'm having difficulties getting the zc_install to start up on my local server.
I've successfully installed MAMP and placed the contents of zen-cart v.1.3.7 in the htdocs folder. When I follow the path //localhost/Applications/MAMP/htdocs/zc_install I get "Not Found ... The requested URL /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/zc_install was not found on this server."
I've been at this all day, reading all throughout this forum and I'm stumped!
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks Pixxi, that works!
I also realized I was running two Apaches and not activating the one on MAMP so the first time I tried the link it didn't work.
I guess n0ow the 'real' fun begins!
