choosing two instances of the same product with different attributes in one go

Hi All,

We have posted this same question in another section in this site, but as we got no results, we thought we might post it again in the general category.

We are new to ZENCART, and are facing a problem.
We are developing a shopping cart for a contact lens website. We are allowing users to choose sets of lenses for left eye and right eye, which obviously are the same product but have different attributes.

But till date, we havn't been able to let the users choose both the left and right eye lenses simultaneously and click on the "add to cart" button. We are wanting something in effect to the feature available at http://www.1800contacts.com.

From what I can see you're trying to order multiple products at once which I don't believe Zencart can do. You could trick the system by using the attributes. Providing all lenses cost the same you could have a base price for the lens type then use attributes for:

• Qty left (values 0 to whatever + a price for the qty)
• Qty right (values 0 to whatever + a price for the qty)
• Power left
• Power right
• BC left
• BC right

This way your customers can in essence order monoptic or bioptic lenses in various quantities. The problem with this method is your stock control won't work if you're using it.

Hi Joe and thanks for your reply.

You see, the situation is like this. We need to market contact lenses and while the product is the same, the power etc (prescription) for each eye is different.

What is required is that on the product info display page we should be able to enter the quantities of lens separately for either eye.

We have used attributes on the page to get the prescription but we are still able to use but one quantity field.

What we are essentially trying to implement (technically) is something like this

In your suggested approach, if we use two quantity fields as attributes, would those quantities be recorded in the shopping cart as quantity or as an attribute?

If they are recorded as an attribute, how would the shopping cart process the order for quantity and calculate invoice value?

Maintaining stock is not important to us and so we are comfortable with that situation.

Hi AuroraMedia,

The quantity is only an attribute but because you are pricing each side attribute the invoice value will be correct. It's not perfect but will work. The invoice will say something like:

Z Conacts
Qty Left 4
Power Left 1.5
BC Left 8.7
Qty Right 4
Power Right 2
BC Left 8.7


As far as running the store you have all of the information you need but not as pretty as being able to order multiple items at once.
