Default Customers register but cannot login

I have been testing my site and have registered on my site as a customer. All appears to go ok and I receive the email to say that I have a new account. However, when I go back to my site and log in nothing happens, it just keeps saying that I should login. So therefore, customers can register but not login. Is there something in the background that I need to do to allow this to happen. Can anyone advise me I am going round in circles! Thanks

What version of Zen Cart are you using? What is the URL?

Sounds daft but I am not sure what version I am using - it has been set up by a hosting company - he said it is the latest version??? My URL is www.pinkpolkadots.co.uk - really appreciate any help you can give me.

To know which Zen-Cart version you are using, go to your admin - > tools - > server info. This will display the version as all you need to do is to paste it on your next post.

1 - On the same page you went about the version info, it also states the PHP version and mySQL version. Would it be possible to state which are the versions you're also using ?

2 - Are you using any custom templates ?
3 - Are you using any contributions ?

I have tried adding items into my cart before logging on - it allows me to put things in my cart but when you go to check out it says to login, I login and the login sections clear and ask me to login again - so I cannot purchase the items. I have checked in admin and I can see the customer account set up - but am now at a loss!

    My SQL 4.1.21-standard-log

my zen cart has been set up by a hosting company so I am assuming that templates have been used - sorry to be so vague this is all new to me and I am winging it at the moment as the support from my host company is rubbish!

As for contributions I am not sure - can you tell me what they are ? Ta

This PHP version is really old. I'd recommend sending a support ticket message to your web hosting party requesting for an upgrade of PHP.
