    Default Too Many Items in Cart

    Some of our items have a lot of attributes.
    When several different sizes of the items are added, the Shipping Estimator drops off the bottom of the shopping cart page as well as the footer.
    Kind of like the items in the cart are pushing the shipping and footer off the bottom of the page.
    When the shipping estimator drops off, you cannot go to checkout either.
    This is quite a problem as we miss out on some large orders.
    This is the items that give the problem when too many different sizes are added.

    Any input is appreciated.

    Dropping off the bottom or timing out on the page?

    Have you an idea of how many products or what products have to be added to reproduce this issue?

    Well, it seems to be 'dropping off the page' to me.
    The link above is to the item that will cause it.
    I think it will take adding the same item (with different attributes) 8 times to make the shipping caculator disappear from the cart page.

    It is slow ... but so far I can add 11 items to the cart and am still getting it to eventually show ...

    First things first ...

    You have a lot of attributes ... this will be slow on many servers that are not optimized for php and MySQL or capable of handling the needs of a site such as your's ... you might look into our Certified Hosting sites and talk to them, especially about this product, with a combo of 11+ layouts for the attributes ...

    Next, try turning off the Shopping Cart sidebox on the Shopping cart page in the Configuration ... Layout Settings ...
    Shopping Cart Box Status
    Shopping Cart Shows
    0= Always
    1= Only when full
    2= Only when full but not when viewing the Shopping Cart
    Does this help the speed?

    As a test, to see if FedEx is having a slow day, if that is the real FedEx module ... switch to Flat Rate just to test speed ...

    NOTE: you are missing some classes from your stylesheet ...
    .hiddenField {
    display: none;
    }
    .visibleField {
    display: inline;
    }
    This will fix your address displays so you don't see the hidden field unless it is needed to be visible ...

    You can also speed up the page by setting the Shipping Estimator to be a button ... if the customer wants an estimate ... they can push the button ... if they don't ... why gum up the works on a resource intensive site?

    The other method would be to use a different layout for products that don't require as many attributes ...

    NOTE: v1.4 will have a much sleeker design so that the current layout will not be so resource intensive if you can hang in there while we are working our fingers to the bone to get it done ...

    Thanks for all the good feedback. I quickly turned off the sidebox in shopping cart and will see about the other recommendations when I get a chance about the slowness. Our provider is Siteground which is supposed to be optimized for Zen applications.

    In the mean time, the problem persists. Let me get you to a good demonstration of what is happening.

    Go to www.qualitywindowscreen.com and log in:
    user: trey##########################
    pass: password

    That account has a full cart with the problem. If one item is removed from the cart, the issue dissapears.

    :) The shipping caculator is a modified UPS, not actually Fedex.

    Thanks, Dan

    Default Too Many Items in Cart-Update

    I got some good feedback about the slow site, thanks.
    Some of our items just have lots of attributes.

    In the mean time, the problem persists. Let me get you to a good demonstration of what is happening.

    Go to www.qualitywindowscreen.com and log in:

    pass: password

    The Shipping Calculator and Footer has dissapeared from the shopping cart page.
    And you cannot continue to checkout.

    That account has a pretty full cart with the problem. If one item is removed from the cart, the issue dissapears.

    BTW, the shipping caculator is a modified UPS, not actually Fedex.

    Thanks, Dan

    Wow, that is one very slow site. I've made three attempts to view the offending page and it just never loads. So I'm afraid I'm giving up.

    However, in passing I noticed that you have a large number of validation errors on your index page and in Firefox the display is all over the place. Most of the errors seem to be due to the structure being broken. I'd recommend fixing these as even when your server finally responds, they will cause slow rendering in visitors' borowsers as they try to sort out the structural problems with your pages.

    Switch to Classic Template ...

    Turn off the Shopping Cart sidebox when on the shopping_cart page ...

    Set the Shipping Estimator to be a button ...

    Let's see if lessening the time to draw the screen changes anything ...
