You might want to upgrade to the newest version of Zen Cart before you do anything.
If that doesn't take care of the problem...
Find all the corresponding files in the "classic" template that match the "new" files from your custom template.
Use something like WinMerge or other comparison software of choice and do a line-by-line comparison of the files. If you can find what's different, it might help you be able to add what's missing into your new template.
Have you contacted the place where you got the template from to see if they have any ideas?
