Only 1 product at special price

Could anyone tell me if I can do this with Zen Cart:

I have product "A" at Normal Price £Y
Product "A" has a selling price of of £W

If a customer orders 3 x Product "A" I want to charge them as follows:
For the first one £W
For the second one £Y
For the third one £Y

That is, they can only buy 1 of any product that is on a special - the rest is on the normal price.

Is this possible?

Have you looked at the Products Price Manager and the Quantity Discounts?

Yes, ive had a look at these options, but I cannot see how it can help me tackle the issue I wanted to. Perhaps you can shed some light on this?

From what I can see, I can limit the number of items that can be placed in the shopping cart to the Max Quantity - but thats not what I require. If you can refer to my initial post, I need to be able to charge a special price for the first item, thereafter any additional products are charged at the normal price.

Go to the Catalog ... Products Price Manager ...

Find the Category then the Product ...

Click Edit ...

Click the Add 5 blanks on the Discount Quantity ...

Decide if you want to discount by Percentage, Actual Price or Amount Off

Decide if you want to set the Price based on the Product Price or the Special Price ... note the Special Price will use the Product Price when there is no Special ...

Now add the QTY and Discount/Amount to use at that Qty ...

See if this let's you price your products based on the qty breaks you need ...

Thanks for your response. I have tried this but cannot get it to do what I want.

Let me give you an example:

My shop sells books. One of the books is priced as follows:

Actual Price: £5
Special Price: £1

If a customer orders Qty = 1, then the special price is to apply
If a customer orders Qty = 2 or more, then the Actual Price is to apply to the additional book.

So if the customer orders 4 books, then the total should be

£1 x 1 book + £5 x 3 books = £16 in Total.

Can this be achieved.

This is not built into Zen Cart to work in this manner ...

You would have to customize the code to charge different prices for each quantity set in that way ...
