    Default Temporarily Disabling Attributes

Is there a way to temporarily disable an attribute? Here is my dilemma.

On a new jewelry site that I am constructing, I will be selling a certain gemstone that is only available in finite quantities. Lets say I have a ring that can be set with three center stones: 1ct, 1.5ct, and 2ct (and I have a dropdown menu for the customer to select the correct stone). Also, lets say I have 20 other rings that all have the same option. If the 1.5ct stone goes out of stock, is there a way for me to temporarily disable the 1.5ct stone attribute option across the whole site? I know it can be deleted, but can it be disabled?

    Thanks

I am in need of this as well

You can edit the attribute to "display only" so that is unselectable
But this will only confuse a shopper, not being able to select it.

We need a button like on the products to totally disable the attribute.

If it was done like this you would still need to individually disable each products attribute.
You could not globaly disable an attribute across multiple products as each products attributes are separate when they are copied to a new product.

This is a very old thread, but since I found nothing more on the subject, I wanted to post a follow-up.

I found a very simple way to accomplish this, BUT you must be proficient with databases. I went into my zen_products_options_values table and changed the language ID to an invalid number (2).

Poof! They disappeared from the list, and they can be reinstated by changing it back.

NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND DATABASES DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS!!!
