Which Images are they ?

I may have overlooked something repeated here before - but can't find anything that addresses this....
When I am setting up the Image sizes in configuration - the title of the image in question is not very descriptive - which means I have been setting Image sizes - and then going back to the cart to check if I got the correct one....(takes a lot of time - and some settings don't appear to change anything ?
My question is this - has anyone - or could anyone with an extensive knowledge of the system - create a way of identifying (more easily) - which image titles relate to which images on the page ? - (screenshot with "titled item" showing where it is located ?) - or something similar ?
Any ideas anyone ?

Are you speaking of the resizing images from within the Admin?

If so, there are basically 3 images sizes that can be controlled. The "small images" (things that are found in search results, new products listings, featured product listings, etc..). These are the "smallest images you will find in Zen cart".

Then you have the "medium images" which can be found usually on pages like the "Product Pages" (product info page), etc... These are usually the images that show more detail on a particular product.

Finally you have the large images. These are images that typically show when you "click on a medium image" to get a pop-up of a "larger version".

So, if you change any of those sizes / widths, it will change it for all related images across the entire site.

Hopefully that helps explain them a bit more. There are a number of tutorials in the help section of Zen here as well as a number of forum posts on how to deal with images. You may want to take a look at those to get a grasp on how it all work.

My difficulty is that being unfamiliar with the cart - I don't always know which of the above items relates to which part of the page...so leads to much time spent trying one after another to see which item affects what...does that explain any better ?

Try displaying the site in your browser, right click on an image and select 'Properties' and this will display the image name and the path to it.

Small Image Height

Includes ALL of the "smallest images" you'll find throughout the cart.

Heading Image Width - Admin
Heading Image Height - Admin

If using images for your "headings", this will set that size

Subcategory Image Width
Subcategory Image Height

These set the size for all images found that represent "subcategory pages" (if you have any subcategories). If you only have 1 level of categories, this will not pertain to you. It refers to the page(s) that you would come to if you clicked on a category with a subcategory under it. On the preceding page, you can represent the subcategory with an image if you like.

Calculate Image Size

Asks if you want the cart to automatically calculate the image size. This is useful in allowing the cart to determine the "best" height and width of an image based on the various height and width parameters you set on this page (the images page).

Image Required true

Determines if you want images to be required. If set to True, and an image is not present for a product, then you'll get the "no image" graphic in place of where the product image would typically go. If set to False, and a product does not have an image associated with it, the page will just be left "blank" in the spot where the graphic would usually show.

Image - Shopping Cart Status
Image - Shopping Cart Width
Image - Shopping Cart Height

These are the images you'll find on the "Shopping Cart Page(s)" (when a user is viewing their shopping cart). You would have to also set the system to show the product images in the shopping cart as well.

Category Icon Image Width - Product Info Pages
Category Icon Image Height - Product Info Pages

These are the images that you can use (if you choose to do so) to represent each individual "Top Level" Category. Similar to "sub cats", but works for the Top Level.

Top Subcategory Image Width
Top Subcategory Image Height

When you have MULTIPLE subcategories under one main category the "Top Level" subcategory image is the one that appears on the "first subcategory". For example, the following representation may help.

- Sub Category

Product Info - Image Width
Product Info - Image Height
Product Info - Image Medium Suffix
Product Info - Image Large Suffix
Product Info - Number of Additional Images per Row

All these images are what you find on the MAIN Product "info page" (when you click down to the individual product level). The "Additional images per row" only pertain to you if a product has "multiple images" (which you would have added from within the Admin).

Image - Product Listing Width
Image - Product Listing Height
Image - Product New Listing Width
Image - Product New Listing Height

These images are found on the "image product listing pages" (those that list MULTIPLE products on one single page.) You arrive at pages like this typically when a user clicks on a link that lists out more than one product on a page (like search results etc...)

Image - New Products Width
Image - New Products Height

Sets image size only for NEW products (if showing on site).

Image - Featured Products Width
Image - Featured Products Height

Sets image size for FEATURED products only (if using, and showing on site).

Image - Product All Listing Width
Image - Product All Listing Height

Sets image height and width of all images that appear when a user clicks on the "All Products" link (if showing on the site) at the bottom of all the "category links".

Product Image - No Image Status
Product Image - No Image picture

Turns on or off the settings for whether or not you want to show a default image for a product that has no image. The first part here sets it to show or not. The second part here allows you to enter the image you want to use. (You might say "No Image For This Product" or "No Image Available" etc...
