Customer chooses product cost ??

A bit of a strange one this.....

A customer has just bought from ebay a product that we also sell on our website.
We charge a different price on ebay to what we charge on our website for both the product and postage.

The customer is having trouble with paypal ... so i was wondering if Its possible to set up a sort of dummy product, that the customer can enter the price of, so that they can pay for the item using zencart and protx.
So basically using zencart just so they can pay via protx.

I suppose I could always set the modify the price for each individual case, but wouldnt it be useful (!) if the customer could enter the amount to pay instead !.

use the documents product type

create a .01 item

then change the text on the box to read ebay price ( no decimal )

the customer enters the total price from ebay and hits add to cart
use a text box attribute for them to put the ebay item number in

I've created a product as document product, but I'm lost from then on..
Can you put a bit more detail in more me.... especially "change the text on the box"... what box ?

Its a pretty smart idea....

I think they then enter the ebay price into the quantity box, with no decimal points (so a $50.75 item, they would enter 5075), then its like they're adding 5,075 one cent items to their cart.

I'm not sure what he means by "Change the text on the box" either, I'm guessing you can change the Add to Cart text. Since both the document product types and the regular product types use the same language define for that (PRODUCTS_ORDER_QTY_TEXT), you could create a new language define, like DOCUMENTS_PRODUCTS_ORDER_QTY_TEXT, use that in tpl_document_product_info_display.php, so that instead of "add to cart" they see something like "enter your total with no decimal points".

Ah So ... if the customer's "bill" is 15.75 he will enter 1575 as a quantity and the unit cost is 0.01 making..... 15.75 ooooh... I like it !

Is there a way to let the customer set the price for items other than documents? I'd like to sell the music on our little record label in a "pay what you will", similar to what Radiohead has done with their release: In Rainbows. Any ideas?

documents is just a layout its NOT dedicated just to documents,
