Can't add or delete categories

I installed ZenCart fine, but I can't get it to delete the default sample Hardware and Software categories, nor will it add a new category. It takes me through the steps to do it, gives the impression its been done, but the categories deleted are still there and the categories added are not there. Please help. Is this a permissions issue or something I need to do somewhere on the root? and if so, where?

nope, no error messages. It looks like its going to do it, and doesn't. Any clue as to what I'm doing wrong? Should any directories be CHMOD'd to anything? Did I miss something?

What default Hardware and Software sample categories are you talking about?

It's the sample categories that comes with Zen Cart ....

I used to sell hardware and software, but now its just incense, oils, candles, art, prints, crafts ....

i still sell videos and music, so i can keep those sample categories, but for some reason these two won't delete. I can delete products, but not the categories. it's weird.

I am having the exact same problem but only with top level categories, can someone please shed some light on this?

I am able to add and delete sub categories but I cannot add or delete top level categories. This is a fresh install and everything seems to be set fine and working well.
