Apologies if I'm missing something obvious - is it possible to change the format of the order number? I'm looking for something like AB-11xxxx where xxxx is the incrementing order number.
Pointers appreciated -thanks very much in advance.

The Sort Order fields are not displayed anywhere so numbers are used as they work without thought ...
Your request sounds like a products_model where the products model number is:
AB-110010
AB-110011
AB-110115
AB-110020
AB-110022
AB-110210
AB-112010

Do you want the modified number stored with the pre-fix or only displayed that way?

It's not vital it follows that exact path - what I'm trying to avoid is a very low order number (it just screams 'small shop'), and rather than enter 1000+ bogus orders to artificially raise the order number, it'd be nice to either a) tweak the number in the db to make it larger without any effort or b) make the order number format different - in whatever way. If that makes sense.
Admin->Tools->Store Manager ... you'll see an option to change the starting number
