Base Price, then reduced price for additional quantities

Ok, There is one post that looks like what I'm looking for already posted back in May 06 (title is "quantity dicount" ... yes that was the spelling!)

Basically:

1 Product = 6.99
2 products = 6.99 + (4.99*1)
x Products = 6.99 + (4.99*x)

The post said something about setting "Products Price set by attributes" then going to attribute manager and doing jiggery pokery! Thats where I lost the post as I couldnt understand the post.

Whilst I investigate - does anyone have any ideas what type of attribute should be setup? Text?Dropdown?

Help would be appreciated!

Ok, Sorted!

Pricing controller will sort you out with a quantity discount side of things, I just had to get my head round the maths

I had to work out the price per unit inc discount and enter that.

So I drew up a quick spreadsheet with the following:

1 @ 6.99
2 @ 11.98
3 @ 16.97
4 @ 21.96
....
Then divide the result by the qty of items (this will be called x value!). So it works out:

2 = 5.99 ea
3 = 5.66 ea
4 = 5.49 ea

Set qty discount to "Actual Price"

The x value goes into your discount value and qty goes in as normal, and hay presto

Spoke too soon

Ok it works ok for the example I suggested above but I also have a product we sell by the metre, and there is no limit to the length they can have (its rope) again the price per metre may be 2.25 for the first metre and 1.75 for each additional metre.

Can anyone help me on this corker??

No answer to this question here either.

Basically came to the same solution which didn't quite work as needed.

Unfortunately, the qty discount only seem to apply to the total quantity, I could not find a way to keep the original quantity at standard price, and then apply the discount to the additional quantities.

Can anyone help?

I managed to get a solution to this through swguys contribution discount extensions contribution, it means you need to make price cuts in a php file but is quite easy from there, from that it works fine on my shop now.

Definately worth looking into as far as a proper contrib is concerned tho.

is it the ot_quantity_discount.php that I need to play with?
