Listing an item as sold out

Is there a way to show items after they have been sold out? The site I work on contains lots of antiques and I was requested to make it so that even if an item has been sold out (there's just one piece each) that it should still be displayed with a "sold" message. One of the reasons for this is that we can reproduce a ############## of that item if a customer really wants an item like that. (At a lower price that the antique original of course)

There probably a simple way to do this but I cannot seem to find it.

You could change these settings in your admin -> configuration -> stock:

Allow Checkout
Mark product out of stock
Products status in Catalog when out of stock should be set to
Show Sold Out Image in place of Add to Cart

to achieve what you what. For example, after an item is sold out, it is still enabled in your catalog but people can't check out. Then you can edit the Sold Out Image and make it say "############## available" or something... just an idea :)

/includes/templates/template_default/buttons/english
but advisable to use template override system i.e.
/includes/templates/nameofyourtemplate/buttons/english
There are two sold out buttons...one large..one small...
both are found in folder I have quoted above
