Default Transfer from Windows to Linux Server

I spent several weeks designing my site offline on my local computer which is running windows xp. Now I am ready to put it online but my host says that they use Linux servers and cannot transfer my site. Is there any way to transfer from Windows to Linux or did I just waste 2 months of my life?

They might be referring to their being able to transfer from your local...

Do this all the time as the files and the DB are portable and only a few edits required. But you will have to FTP your files and create the DB and apply the backup to it.

Yes, I am trying to transfer from my local machine. So basically I do a fresh install on the host server, ftp all my files except the config files, and then upload my old database?

    What are the edits required?

I did this a few months ago and there are a few things to watch for.

#1 Read the FAQ's that Dr. Byte pointed out.
#2 Your Windows server didn't care about case sensitive things like image names so Image.JPG and image.jpg are two different files on Linux. Also dir structure, Custom and custom are two different places.
#3 Your configure.php in the ../includes folder and the ../admin/includes folder need to point to your new server and url's. Path's for "easy populate""google sitemap" "sql backup" and other mods need to be checked also.

All in all it is relatively painless
    Good Luck

    Yes, that sums it up.

LibertyFlag raises some important points about case-sensitivity issues to keep in mind.
