While in my shop, if you click on the "home" link to return to the main page it brings up my index list instead of the home page. Is this a problem with my installation? How can I fix this?

Your server has a non-standard configuration...
If there is an .htaccess file in your cart directory, add this to the end of it. If not, create a blank .htaccess file with this code.
BrandTimCode:DirectoryIndex index.php
