    Default Getting URL's from an existing site

    Three years ago I did a site for a customer that now wants (and needs) product URL's added to the site. I see that each product has a link (when on the site), but the field for product_url is blank for ALL products in the database. I have a feeling I know the answer, but I am going to ask a stupid question anyway.

    Is there any way to have the URL's automatically generated so the customer does not have to go back and copy and paste over 4000 products?

    Also they are currently running 1.2.6 and are planning on upgrading to 1.3.7 very soon.

    tia...

    Have you looked at the Easy Populate contribution? This would allow you to add the product_url to each product by importing them. You would still need to "generate" the urls, but adding them would be made easier.

    I am assuming you don't mean " a link to a product already in the database " (which should be there already if they have products in it and those products are enabled) but rather, you are talking about adding some text to the "product)url" field for each product (a different concept than just linking to the product page itself in Zen.)

    econcepts;

    Thanks for the reply, but yes, I am looking to "generate" links for products that are currently in the database.

    so for example:

    http://www.swansoninc.com/index.php?...&products_id=3

    I need to add this to the existing database. If you click on the product, it obliviously brings up the above link.

    Basically the goal is to prepare the data to be used on other sites such as froogle, and others like it. Many of these sites require product id, category, image, url, etc. my customer has pretty much everything accept the URL's.

    Ah. Well, if you are looking to generate feeds for the shopping comparison sites etc.. then have you looked at downloading the several contributions that are already built for doing just that?

    It may save you some time.

    So do you know if any of them will automatically generate the url's?

    They should do everything you need (create the whole feed complete with url generated) and even submit them to the sites (some of them do this) for you.
