Default New producttype - hire someone or do it myself?

    Hi everyone!
I need a new producttype and I need it bad.

Is this hard to do myself ( i´m a neewbie ) or shall I hire someone to do it? Can someone in this forum help me with creating a new producttype? How much would it cost?

Or is there a really good tutorial somewhere?

    Best regards,
    Jagge

It depends on what you want the Product Type to do ...

Some are very simple to write such as Product General vs Product Free Shipping ...

Others are more complex to write such as Product General vs Product Music ...

Have you more information on this that might help better explain what you are needing beyond Product General for the new Product Type?

The Moku Book Product is an excellent example of how to add a product type and may be customisable for your own needs as:

    - most, if not all, used fields can be redefined to contain the type of data you might want, and,
    - it contains many additional tables/fields not assigned to any particular purpose.

It's certainly worth looking at to get a feel for the complexity of the task.

Ultimately, only you can decide whether or not you're up for it as no-one here (I assume) knows what your level of knowledge is in any of Zen Cart, php or mySQL.

Your learning curve might be a long one, or you might take longer to develop a usable requirement statement if you farm the work out.
We're now settled in at our final home - http://www.swiftbooks.co.uk - where you'll find an eclectic collection of used books. Still a lot of work to do, though!

    Hi!
    And thanks for the answers.

The only thing I need from this new producttype is some extra fields to put some data in like Size, Color, Diameter, Material etc etc.
Approximately 10 extra fields is what I need.

The shop sells watches and I havent find any producttype for that purpose.

My skills is low so it would probably take me some time to fix it myself but I will give it a look. If someone can do this for me at a good price I will buy it immediately though.

    Best regards,
    Ola

Post a request in Commercial Help room, you will receive several offers and can pick the one you like. If you don't like any offer, you can still do it yourself.
It's faster to have someone with good knowledge of ZC does it for you.
