help question Shipping Weight calculated incorrectly - Not Tare Settings!

    Hi there!

I have a shop almost ready to go, but then I noticed some of my products have been displaying an incorrect shipping weight.

    Let me give some background.

I have a single product, but it is available in two different packages (cartons which add 3 lbs per item, and bags, which add 1 lb per item). In addition, there is a quantity discount for item counts 10-19 and another for item counts 20+.

So the way this is currently set up is:

Item 101 - Product in Qty 1-9, shipping weight 58 lbs each.
Item 102 - Product in Qty 10-19, shipping weight 56 lbs each.
Item 103 - Product in Qties of 20 or more, shipping weight 56 lbs each.

Right now, if I add item 101 to my cart, the weight calculates correctly, but if I add items 102 or 103 to my cart, the shipping weight for those items displays at 1/3rd the actual weight. So that 12 of item 102 weighs 223.999999 lbs, when it ought to weigh 672.

Where would something like this be controlled from? As far as I can tell, other than quantities and the shipping weight specific to the item, items 102 and 103 are set up just like item 101. I'm at a loss as to why this happens, but it greatly affects the shipping cost, as you can imagine, and allows the customer to select UPS shipping when really these items need to be shipped freight.

    Thanks in Advance!

    I don't understand.

You said you have one product which sells in two different packaging formats.
Then you talked about three products, Item 101, 102, 103, and you mixed quantities into those three products.

Can you be more specific about the scenario you have ?

Are there any attributes defined to these products?
What is the product-weight associated with these products ?

Sorry, I often overexplain and re-confuse what I'm trying to say.

Let's just say I have three products, I'm mentioning the quantities in case it has some strange relationship to the problem.

101 (available in quantities of 1-9) weighs 58 lbs shipped.
102 (available in quantities of 10-19) weighs 56 lbs shipped.
103 (available in quantities of 20+) weighs 56 lbs shipped.

101 works fine, shipping weight calculates perfectly, but 102 and 103 calculate the shipping weight as (W x .33333333333), so I end up with strange looking, but more importantly incorrect, shipping weights as viewed in the cart.

Other than specifying their weight and pricing in the product setup, I haven't done anything special with them, such as special attributes, that I'm aware of.

    Okay ... let's try this ...

In order to determine what could be causing it, I need to set up the same products in my own test store. How do I do that? I mean ... what exact steps did you follow to create these products in the first place?
    - product settings on the product-entry/edit page
    - quantity discount configurations
    - any attribute details tied to these products
    - shipping module settings
    - shipping/packaging settings
    - etc

Basically, what do I need to know in order to simulate this in another store?

No, but at least now the top is correct; the bottom is still doing the division thing.

I'm pretty sure the top value is what's being used in calculating available shipping methods, and the bottom number is just a display problem.

It's not a single 552 box, but a clarification that the other items are in bags that cannot be shipped unless using freight. Thanks, tho!
