Default What's the easiest way to add custom fields to the New Product page?

Hi, apologies if posted elsewhere but ZC still confuses me and I've been playing with it for a while now!

I'm doing a customised version of ZC which doesn't offer the ability to buy items - only browse items offered, along with prices and details. One aspect of this is that items (in this case, coach holidays) have different prices for adults, kids and concessionary fares. Obviously the single "price" field won't cut it, and at the moment I'm compromising by manually adding in the various prices to the description box, but customising each one with HTML manually is not a viable solution especially as I'd like to make it as simple as possible for the client to add entries.

I'm looking for the easiest / simplest way to add new fields to my New Product page, fields which I can later add to the public-facing, Product Display pages, so that I can specify (for example) three or four different prices, and then I can add new fields to the Product Display page by adjusting the template (if necessary) or some other options. All this talk of item values, attributes, etc, is plain confusing me - and I can't figure out how to actually add custom fields to the New Product page which can have text entered into for subsequent display.

If it requires manual addition of fields to the SQL db I can do that, I just need someone to point me in the right direction and maybe link me up with an FAQ which describes what I'm trying to achieve - because I'm totally lost as it is at the moment!

This forum's come up trumps for me in the past, and I hope somebody can help me here because I can't be the only person who's wanted to customise ZC in this way!

    Thanks in advance
    Christopher

    A couple high-level thoughts ...

I suspect that attributes might be the right way to do this, since you can set different pricing options for each attribute tied to a product. Using this approach, your products could also automatically show up as "starting as low as" instead of just a flat price and no understanding that there are varying pricing options.
There's an FAQ entry on adding attributes to products.

However, if you're not actually going to be using Zen Cart to sell these items, and they're *only* for display, then it might just be easiest to dump a small HTML table inside each product's description, showing a price chart relevant to the various combinations.

Attributes, hmm. Not overly considered attribs for this purpose, though I'll give it a shot.

Is there a way to display all the attributes on the page so that someone viewing the item can see all the attribs side by side or one under the other for quick reference? Given all these 'items' (the holidays or trips) will be priced differently, it'd be a bit confusing to just say "from 4.60" as the lowest price would usually be the child's price.

Thanks for the attributes idea though...

A look at the demo products (you could do a fresh install into another folder+database) will give you a feel for the many ways in which attributes can be handled and displayed. There are numerous layout options and pricing options available. Best to play around with it and see what it can do for you.

IF you made them Radio Buttons, then they would display the choices in a listing that makes it easier to read than the dropdown and these will be funtional later in a shop ...

Note: you can even use the Default setting to make things more of a "suggestion" than just a choice on the various Attribute Option Name groups of Option Values ...
