Admin problems,. spikes cpu to 100%

When i install zencart and try to access the admin, it hangs and keeps my cpu around 100% and doesnt go anywhere. I waited about 2 mins and then hit stop on the browser which killed the process finally. I reinstalled and made it not look for updates. I read another posting here regarding this and the fixes did NOT help.


I also checked both config files and it shows they have been written to correctly.

Is this a local server or a hosted server?

If local is this a WAMP or similar and which one or IIS?

I have the very same problem on a brand new install of 1.3.7 with IIS5 (Win2000), PHP5.2.4 and MySql 5. The catalog site works fine but the admin site fails to display even the login page. I tried a sample page with phpinfo() on the same folder and that came out OK.

I don't get any error messages, the admin site just doesn't come up while the page tries to load it.

The cache is set to File and the cache folder has modify rights to IIS account.

OK, I think I now what the problem is -- here in this other thread they mention a bug in PHP 5.2.4:

with the $_SERVER["PHP_SELF"] variable having an incorrect value.

I've checked phpinfo() and indeed that's the case... Downgrading PHP, using the latest PHP snapshot, or modifying this value within ZenCart code should do the trick.

It's working now...

I ended up getting the latest snapshot, which I'll update once PHP has an official new version.
