inserting images in texts using HTMLArea

hallo, I hope some can help me. Every time I try to upload images using the appropriate function (the image icon) in HTMLArea I get the following error message:

Invalid base directory: /home/user/public_html/catalog/images

I created that directory, but still I get the same message.
I would like to upload images from my pc , but don't know how to do it.

If I choose "create new dir" in the ImageManager dialog box I get the following error message:

Warning: mkdir() [function.mkdir]: No such file or directory in /home/babynatu/public_html/editors/htmlarea/plugins/ImageManager/Classes/Files.php on line 81

Warning: chmod() [function.chmod]: No such file or directory in /home/babynatu/public_html/editors/htmlarea/plugins/ImageManager/Classes/Files.php on line 82
