Default How to move Zen Cart from localhost to server

Hi, I have re-done my site from scratch on my localhost and would like now to upload it to the server. I still have the original site on the server and would like to know how to over write it. Would I need to completely remove all the files from the server and start again. Heeelp

Just ftp the entire folder to the webserver. Then export the mysql database from localhost using phpmyadmin, log on to web server, import database.

What about the version of the site that is already on the server incl the database, should I remove these first?

If you are using version 1.3.7 on localhost, just upload the folder. And import the mysql database. If you have any worries, create a sandbox to test it.

I've done this a few times and never had any problems.

Still unsure what to do with the existing files (entire site) on the server, the tutorial does not take into consideration that the old version of the site is on the server.

Unless you have access to move the files between accounts on the server, you'll have to just follow the FAQ articles which tell you to use FTP to download the files from the old account and FTP to upload the files to the new account.

If you have access via a shell account to move the files between accounts, and have the permission to do so, just do it.

You can delete or overwrite the files ... it's up to you.
If you want a clean install, it would be wise to delete what's there and upload a fresh set ... that way there is nothing left lingering from the old site.

As to the database, you'll probably want to remove the existing one and load in the new one.
It all depends what you need to do with the old data.

If you don't need anything from the existing/old site/data/files, then ... just delete it.
