    hi,
i'm trying zen cart on my windows server.

    got these messages

admin configure.php is not writeable more info...
store configure.php is not writeable more info...

Why? they are writeable. I've double checked.
I've tryed to also test locally using iis on xp and the files are writeable and still the same errors.

    any answers pls?

Did you specifically grant the Internet Guest Account permissions to read and write those files?
Windows is very fussy that way.

Zen Cart attempts to actually open and write to those files.
If PHP or the operating system denies access, you'll see the "is not writable" message.

Since your operating system is telling PHP that the file is not writable, you're going to have to sort out your permissions problem in order to continue.

An even better solution: Use a linux/unix host instead -- much easier to set permissions

IIS is telling me though that it does have write permissions.

This seem do be a problem with that is out in the windows fourums quite often.

so why does zencart release a version for windows when every post says go to unix.

unix is not an option for me a I have a windows host.

    Is there another way?

What you have is a Windows problem with permissions.
You're right -- it *is* a very common problem with Windows servers.

Zen Cart isn't specifically built for either operating system. It works on Windows and works on Linux/Unix fine.

Your problem is with the permissions set on the file. IIS isn't seeing the file as writable and is preventing PHP from being able to write to the file.

Maybe you can try giving the IUSR_xxxxx account "all access" to the 2 configure.php files instead of just selective options?
Or maybe you can give "Everyone" read/write access temporarily until the installation is done, and then restrict "Everyone" again after it's completed.
