Eddie - if you look at the VAT rates I altered them for you so that it would work last thing, you just need to delete

3 taxable goods All Countries VATable 17.5% 17.5%

in the Tax Class's

I did remove the

"3 taxable goods All Countries VATable 17.5% 17.5%"

and then as a USA client there was no VAT charged on anything!


As a UK (EEC) customer all is fine, BUT as a NON EEC Customer (USA for example) no VAt is charged and we need it to be:

CDS and DVDs – no VAT
Coaching – charge VAT
Courses – charge VAT
Downloads – no VAT
Events – charge VAT
Other – charge VAT

I have had to put the entire store on VAT this morning, and I have removed all tax zones/rates/classes to clean thing s up backend.

Thats right, you have VAT free sales set up for CD/DVD's and or any other products you sell VAT free as Exports, you now need to set a seperate VAT Class not named taxable goods but e.g

3 ---- Taxable Export ---- All Countries ---- 17.5%

and assign that tax class to the product with a Zone (all the countries of the world) for Such as courses but forget about CD/DVD's as they are sorted.

Thanks for all your help on this.

I haven't been able to get it working and for the time being I am going to run with VAT on all for all.

The 2 areas that non EEC customers would end up paying VAT on are small value areas (less than £10) so the VAT is £1.75 on average.

I may look back at this later, but for now I am beaten!

In much the same way as the Tax Class's.

Locations / Taxes -> Zones Definitions >> Insert Zone (i.e Folders)
For Example:-

1. EEC VATable Sales 17.5%
2. Rest of the World 0% VAT
3. All Countries VATable 17.5%

And then go into 'Details' of each folder and Add the Countries you wish in each folder.

Then Go into Tax Rates and Add a Tax Class for each Folder.

The net result is that for each folder you have a Tax rate unique to that country, so setting the Tax Class for the certain products you can charge VAT or not country dependent.
So for chargeable VAT on all countries Tax Class would be 17.5% for Zones 3
And for EEC 17.5% and Rest of the World VAT free Zones 1 & 2

Priority ---- Tax Class ---- Zone ---- Tax Rate
1 ---- Taxable Goods ---- EEC VATable Sales 17.5% ---- 17.5%
2 ---- Taxable Goods ---- Rest of the World 0% VAT ---- 0%
3 ---- Taxable Export ---- All Countries ---- 17.5%
