I set a product's weight to 1lb. When I add that product to the cart and decide to checkout, the product's weight shows 1lb when I select a quantity of 1 for that item. However, when i click checkout and choose a shipping method, the product's weight shows up as 4 lbs and the shipping charges are hence shown incorrectly. Any ideas to solve this issue will be greatly appreciated.

In the Shipping/Packaging ... by default there is a 3lb Tare added for box and bubble wrap ...
