Long category names

The category names for our products is longer than what is allowed as a default ... is there a way to allow more characters?

The length is set in the database as something like varchar(64) for that field... you can alter that. There have been posts that described this in detail.

This in line w/ the same topic, so.....I was having a problem w/ a single category name that was too long. I changed the category_name charvar(32) in zen_categories_description to charvar(64). That will be fine. My question is, will I have to delete everything in the database and upload from scratch, or should it be okay since I deleted the multiple, duplicate category names that were generated when the field was too small ? Obviously I don't know databases.
