Gift certificate and tax

Hi,

Is Gift certificate supposed to apply before or after tax? I could only get it to work after tax... not before tax. For example, someone bought a $100 product and applied a gift certificate fund of $20.
subtotal: $100
shipping: $10
10% tax: $11
Gift certificate: -$20
total: $101

Is the above correct or is Gift certificate component supposed go before the tax like the following which I couldn't get to work.
subtotal: $100
shipping: $10
Gift certificate: -$20
10% tax: $9
total: $99

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

I too am getting INCORRECT gift certificate calculations:

Sub-Total: $85.00
Florida State Sales Tax - 6.00%: $5.10
Gift Certificates: $-15.00
Total: $145.10

What should occur is $85.00 + $5.10 = $90.10 - $15.00 = $75.10.

However, It appears as if the gift cert module is doing the calculation, the adding $70.00 (which is $85.00 - $15.00 gift cert).

I am using Zen-Cart 1.3.8. Is this a bug?? If so, how do I correct it? Also, it appears 1.3.8a is out? Does this fix this issue? I can't seem to find what 1.3.8a does above 1.3.8.

My Gift Cert Module Config is the default:

Gift Certificates

This module is installed

Include Shipping

Include Tax

Are you sure you want to have the Tax adjusted. In most countries a Gift Certificate is just considered as a payment method, and therefore should not affect tax.

In that case, Gift certificate is meant to apply after tax calculation, i.e.
subtotal: $100
shipping: $10
10% tax: $11
Gift certificate: -$20
total: $101
