PayPal virtual terminal vs checkout

We've been using the Virtual Terminal for about a week now. Everything was fine until last night when a CC didn't go through. So, now I have to call the customer to verify the CC #'s and all that great stuff. I think paypal forced us to open a business account because we were making like $900 day. They started regulating our transactions (this is my opionion anyways).

Questions: Why doesn't paypal make an API for Zen Cart. or do they and I just am blind. Is it not worth the work or what? We went with paypal for 2 reasons. We can access our paypal account quickly and 2 the % per transaction was comparable to others like FirstData.

If anyone has been using a better checkout method I would love to hear it.

I really want the customer to be able to checkout COMPLETELY without me having to fetch my middle CC and CVV #'s and then enter manually into the Virtual Terminal. More automation would be great :)

Zen Cart v1.3.8 has built-in support for Website Payments Pro ... which allows your customers to enter their CC details on your site, and will process their card immediately. You don't have to match up middle+outer digits. It all happens in real-time.
