items that can ONLY be purchase with a coupon?

is it possible to have items that can only be "purchased" with a coupon?

what i'm trying to do is have a section of my shop that is for prizes for our challenges, etc. so, when a person wins a contest or challenge, i can issue a coupon and they can pick up their item.

But, i do not want the general public to be able to purchase these items. I do, however, want them to be viewable by the general public. This way if they see something they want, they will have to participate in order to earn it.

is this possible? is there an easier way?

i usually go about things the hard way!

any help or advice would be appreciated!

I think you'll have to do this as a group membership type of thing. However I'm not affluent on how to do that.

thank you for the suggestion.

i'm not sure the group thing would work either... because everyone would not receive the same "amount" of goods.

i dunno what i'm going to do here.

Use the group membership and hack it a bit.
Say if you create a new category called "member products only", which has the id 9. The in the product_info template, use an "if" so that if the member does not belong to that special group, and if the cat_id is 9, then don't display buy now button. This is not foolproof, but you can start from there.
