As I said I did not modify the code, it was working and then just stopped.....

Like i say it use to work and then just stopped working,, as per many others on these forums....
Always something that changed - CODE is not alive and can change itself...

Might be a server change, a file change, a added mod, or many other things

BUT NOT that the code decided to change itself

Did you seek out the debug prog? Set it up and post back with the results

You are correct the code did not change itself...

Neither did I change it... if you look around these forums this is a fairly common problem, but alot of people just seem to reinstall the whole lot... would be nice to know why this is happening...

Ill take a look for the debug programme and see what it comes up with.....

    Thanks for your help

Ok installed the debug programme in admin and the normal includes side and it generates no error logs when I try to login and repeat this problem....

As per the other threads is this something to do with the browser/cookies??

    Thanks Phil

Cut to the quick and reload/FTP the full admin folder

Or if you must determine what caused this - FTP the admin folder to your local and compare to one from a matching version distribution with winmerge or another diff tool

What version of PHP is your server using now?
What version was it using before the problems started?
What are all your settings in Admin->Configuration->Sessions? And if they're not set to defaults, why?
What is your setting in your configure.php files for STORE_SESSIONS and SQL_CACHE_METHOD ? Is your DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE folder pointing to a valid location, and is that folder writable?

Hi and thanks for all the response... you help is appreciated... and i am getting somwhere....

    The php version is 4.4.6

Is been on this version the whole time, and i have a 1.3.7 zen running on the server too which works perfect..

Cant get into admin to see the settings but i hadnt touched them...

    Store sessions is 'db'

    sql_cache method 'none'

and yes the cache folder is valid and pointed to......

BUT i have made progress somewhat.... if i rename the htaccess file so it doesnt work I COULD LOG IN!!! but only for a bit after i named it back.... it worked for about an hour and then I cannot get in again!!!

Something to do with htaccess?? Or the way this works for a while before breaking again is it something to do with a cache??

If it's an .htaccess problem, then your apache errorlogs may contain some related information.
Which specific .htaccess did you change?

I am getting the same problem as of July 3 2008. I have tried all the previously suggested fixes to no avail.

In my error_log file, I have the following error whcih confirms that the problem has something to do with sessions:

PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function Execute() on a non-object in /home/hosting/public_html/ilife/includes/functions/sessions.php on line 61

    Any ideas?

    TIA,

    Daniel

FYI, here's a little quirky item that may provide some insight on the issue (I hope). Sometimes when I attempt to login to the admin control panel, it doesn't just refresh the page...I get some html code displayed on the screen. This happens on multiple computers, so it is not a browser problem.

    Here's a shot of what I see:
