Removing one category link

I'm trying to produce a very simple gallery solution using the Document - General category as Lucky_Starre did here http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65389 with a few changes.
However, I don't want the Gallery link to appear in the Categories sidebox but will hard code it in another sidebox.

Is it possible to suppress the appearance of a category from the list and if so, how do you do it?

I haven't done it the exact thing you are looking at - however, if you have a category that is disable, and then place inside it a category that is enabled - users should be able to follow links to the subcategory, but because it is inside a disabled 'Master Category", that should keep it from showing up in the categories side bar - I do this to have hidden products in a site I have. People can link to and buy the products, but they don't show up anywhere in the store.
