Upload an Excel file to mySQL?

Now this would seem like an obvious question for people setting up a store with many items (say 1000-plus) already on a database of some kind. But I can't find mention of it anywhere. Is it possible to work directly with mySQL, bypassing the ZenCart admin, and upload an Excel file with the correct fields? It'd be a huge timesaver.

I knew I'd be back. I've downloaded and installed this, but "EasyPopulate" is not appearing in my Admin > Tools. It seems that there's a file missing: 'includes/application_top.php'
which easypopulate.php is looking for. I've searched but it's just not there. Wot have I dun??

You've probably uploaded the files to the wrong folders. You need to use the folder structure supplied in the zip ... which is usually also listed in the readme/docs.

Excellent, thanks, I deleted the lot and started over, now it's working.

Is there an easer way to input data into an excel file. Say maybe an online form thats output would be an excel form. That way you could just enter your product info into excel and upload it to the DB. using EP.
