Hi,
Is anyone aware of a module that works with Zen Cart that will let customers enter their house number/name and their Postcode and from here this will update the rest of their address details?
Many thanks,

Hi,
I'm not aware of a publicly available module to do this but I have seen it on one of the Zen Cart sites that Kuroi Web Design has done. I believe they use the services/data of postcodeanywhere.co.uk . It would probably be worth dropping Kuroi a PM and asking how much it would cost for them to set something up for you.
Alternatively you could have a go at doing something yourself using one of the online postcode lookup services or post a message in the Commercial Help Wanted section.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Christian.
Cheers Christian, I will have a look at what is about and see if it is worth releasing a module to do this if other people need this in the UK.
Cheers again,
J

I had in mind to package this up as a mod, but the work was originally done on a highly customized checkout and so would need some re-working to adapt it to a standard Zen Cart release. Not high on my list of priorities, I'm afraid.

Hi Kuroi,
Have you the url to the site that you implemented this on? I would like to take a look at it if you dont mind.
I am thinking it would help speed up the whole checkout process, so would be something we are interested in.
I have sent you a PM regarding this also.
Many thanks,
J

The site is www.monkeyshine.co.uk, but please keep in mind that it's a live site and so don't go completing the sign up unless you want to buy something, nor repeatedly testing the postcode lookup, thus running down my client's lookup credits - many thanks.

No porblem at all. Quite ironic, we sell the same kind of stuff as they do!
How much work would be involved in updating the checkout process so that tis would work?
Cheers

Happily I think you're operating in a rather different part of the market, otherwise I would feel unable to give you free advice to help you compete with a paying client!
How long to do this from scratch would depend on the skills and knowledge of the person doing the work. It requires some knowledge of PHP, CSS and especially javascript. My notes show that the changes to incorporate this were relatively small, but there were problems in particular with the javascript supplied by the external service and with how it worked with SSL. I'd allow about a day to install and test for somebody doing it for the first time (less if the service provider has integrated some of the feedback I sent them).

this is exactly what i have been looking for and have exchanged a PM or 2 about this with you Kuroi, i may just have a look at doing this myself but not being the best at PHP/Java it may take me a week solid work rather than a day and then another week to test. i think it would be a worthwhile mod though if someone wanted to put it together.
Such a mod would be a great tool for a lot of people i am sure.
i beleive i have worked it out and have got it working, just need to test a little bit more but i will let you know
